Baby Logan - 10 days old

This is Benjamin at 1 week old, when Logan was first born I thought they looked totally different, but now I see a lot of similarities. I think they are definately going to look like brothers.
Super fuzzy and spikey haired baby Logan fresh out of the bathtub.

Caught having a good dream :) He does little happy baby smiles often

Ben's "Un-Birthday"

Benjamin's birthday is July 18, but his grandparents and uncle were coming to visit to see the new baby so we opted to have an early birthday party for him. He was a little confused "Am I five now?" but excited to get early presents. We laughed and sang him the "Unbirthday" song from Alice in Wonderland.
William hates mowing it, but it is a nice change to actually have a backyard to play in. Uncle Spencer coaching Ben on the finer art of throwing a Frisbee.
My parents got Benjamin a swingset for his birthday. It took my Dad and brother all day on Friday to assemble it and it was 100 degrees. They put it together in the garage for the most part and then moved it out to level it on Saturday. Ben couldn't wait until it was all done before giving it a try.
This glider is his favorite part so far because he can make it go all on his own well and it goes pretty high! There is also a stand-up swing, 2 regular swings, rings, a 2 person glider, and a slide. When Logan is bigger we're going to add a baby swing to the frame.

The War of Angels

Before the fashioning of day and night
In a forgotten realm of noble light
A Great king looked upon his valiant young
And his heart remorsed in the songs they sung
They chose that day, as he knew that they would
To live there own lives and do as they could
In his great wisdom he knew they would stray
In the vast forest they would lose their way
Someone must go to show them the way home
Or in a dark night they would always roam
The eldest son did stand and humbly call
For them I will die and give them my all
Another son stood and had smoothly said
Send me but give me your glory instead
The first was chosen to carry fort light
The second rebelled and started a fight
Sounds of a broken heart flew through the air
When a third of his children cursed him there
The song of a trumpet fell upon the land
As behind the chosen the others band
In a war of great words, truth verses lie
The noble cast the wicked from the sky
In the land of light tears were being shed
As the children mourned the spiritual dead
With a broken heart the chosen proclaimed
We must carry on and do as we aimed
Stakes will be dabbled with our brothers there
They lost every thing so they will not care
They will drag you down if you allow it
With evil blades they’ll destroy your spirit
Remember who you are or all is lost
Then ill guide you home no matter the cost
Then one by one the children all went forth
To an imperfect world to prove their worth
Then the chosen of God joined them in birth
And fulfilled his vow when he died on earth

Baby Update

Well we have been home since Friday afternoon and it seems that everything that could go wrong has. First William gets sick, he's better now, but still not 100%. Logan was sent home from the hospital with a special light for his jaundice. He has to have his blood tested daily until his bilirubin levels start to go down. They have only gone up and up so far. He started at 11.5 on Friday and by today he was up to 16.2, HOPEFULLY tomorrow they will have started to decline. He can't come off the light until he is down to 13 and can maintain that level (or lower)without the light. The higher his levels the more drowsy and sleepy he becomes. They have him nursing every 2 hours during the day, and no more than 3 hours at night so I'm not getting much rest. And to top it all off today is was well into the 90s in Missouri and our A/C went out. It needed more Freeon but they didn't come to fix it until late in the evening, so the house was sweltering!! Not a fun day today.

Baby Logan Pics

Logan Charles was a very big boy at 9 lbs, 13 oz, but his delivery was easier for me than Benjamin's by far. It was smooth sailing once we got to the hospital and I got my wonderful epidural! Benjamin = 22 hours Logan = 8 hours That's what I get for marrying a Scottish Herrington with broad shoulders!
He has lots of medium dark brown hair

Benjamin is very excited to be a big brother!

Logan is a total cuddlebug and wants to be held when he's awake

Special Delivery from Mammaw and Pappaw

My mom flew out on Friday to be here to help with Benjamin and the new baby. We couldn't have timed the delivery any better. I went into labor overnight and we went to the hospital at 6 am. Mom dropped Ben off at Summer Kindergarten at 9 and came straight to the hospital to witness the delivery of her second grandson at 10:15 am. Then we had all morning until 2 pm to relax and enjoy our new bundle of joy before Big Brother came to visit after school.
Logan had some feeding issues at the hospital. Thursday night he had a projectile vomiting episode and wasn't able to eat the rest of the night. The doctor ordered an X-ray of his abdomen to find out what was going on, and it looked like he wasn't going to get discharged with me afterall. Turns out Baby was very constipated with meconium! After getting an infant suppository? and a couple of diaper explosions later we were sent home Friday afternoon.
So far Logan is a nightowl which is the schedule he had in utero so no surprise there. Last night was the most alert he's been, but we were all waiting for him to go to sleep so we could all go to bed, but that never happened. He stayed up until his next feeding time. William woke up in the middle of the night vomiting sick with a stomach bug and has since been quarantined away from newborn Logan and the rest of us. So we are down a pair of hands and my mom and I are exhausted!!!!
Logan also has jaundice. The doctor sent him home with a Wallaby light for light therapy. We had to take him back to the hospital today to be tested but he's up to 14 so he has to stay on the light for another day at least. That is the grey cord coming out of his stomach. You can see the yellow in the whites of his eyes in the last photo of Mammaw holding him. He goes back to get tested again tomorrow so hopefully his numbers have started to go down.
So everyone please pray that William gets better quick so he can fulfill his Daddy duties :)

Benjamin Where’s your trousers?

Ben attended his first highland games with me this Sunday. Ben said his favorites were the guys with swords and the bagpipes. He also took some interest in the caber toss. Had a hard time getting him to sit though a highland fling (a Scottish dance) and he also grew bored with the bard telling stories. (Which surprised me) The bard experience was actually embarrassing for me. I had found us a seat at the front of the tent less then ten feet from the bard. Three minutes into the Bards tale Benjamin proclaimed in a voice that could be heard by the bard and his entire audience “I don’t like this, this is boring”! Needless to say I packed the kid up and beat a hasty retreat. I was not exactly impressed. Ben however managed to redeem himself. Later that night while we were eating dinner he spontaneously started humming the tune to Scotland the brave. Which was one of the songs he got to hear played by bagpipes at the games. So it turns out he really is my son.

Baby Shower

I'm huge - enough said
Will's co-workers were kind enough to throw us a baby shower and it FAR exceeded my expectations! We had a great time!

Melissa is SO crafty! The cake matched the baby nursery decor. We got many gifts for items that we still needed for baby boy #2

Still Pregnant

Well I'm still pregnant and that's a good thing I guess even though I spend most days on the couch or in bed. After another bout of preterm labor on Monday I'm up to 2.5 cm dilated when last checked so I'm happy to know it should go quicker than with Ben whenever real labor hits. My mom flies in on Friday so I'm hoping baby will wait until then to come. Benjamin got to go to a Big Brother class at the hospital today and get a tour etc. They read some books, watched a movie on babies, and painted a onesie for the new baby.

Ben's Staples

Benjamin has been going to the same evening daycare center for years while I teach piano lessons and Will is working and I have never been called by them. So when my phone rang while I was teaching and I saw their name on the caller ID I knew it couldn't be good. He fell on the playground while jumping/running on raised stepping stones and hit his head. When I saw how long the gash was I decided to take him in to Children's Mercy Urgent Care just to be on the safe side (it wasn't deep at all, just on the surface). 3 hours later we walked out with 5 staples. Despite all the waiting Ben had a great time and was very brave, didn't even cry! They brought in a child life specialist with her show and tell box and she showed him everything they were going to do so he played with the stapler and knew what sound it made, etc. And then she read him a Bolt book with the sound buttons while they cleaned him up. He was so distracted and tuned into the book he didn't care what they were doing to his head. The doctor rolled him over and said "All done, big guy!" and Ben got upset because the story wasn't over yet! He got a new Hot Wheels car out of the prize closet and walked out very happy about the whole evening.
